Towards an Intelligent System for Monitoring Electrical Energy Quality - Foundations and Motivations

Electrical energy must be supplied in enough amount but with adequate quality. One of the components of electrical energy quality is the harmonic distortion. In this paper, we show an alternative way to measure distortion, mixing Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and Fourier Analysis. The technique here presented is specially useful for comparative analysis and is intended to be the basis for an intelligent system for monitoring electrical energy quality.
